IELTS Model Essay 16模範解答Task1ーWitten by Sayaー
はじめに
みなさん、こんにちは。今回は、IELTS模範解答１６回目の投稿です。
そして、課題はこちらの教材からピックアップさせていただきました。

こちらの教材は、writing - speaking - reading - listening の全てが、テーマごとに分かれている教材で、writingのアイディアが足りないな〜という人にはおすすめの教材です。
また、Camberigeが出版しているので、IELTS公式教材であるため、私はよくこの問題集を行っていました。
こちらの教材に書いてある、モデルエッセーや、問題の考え方もとても参考になりますので、おすすめ教材の一つです。
さて、今日のモデルエッセーは、私が書いた文章ですが、私の師匠から以前添削を受けたものです。
彼女のライティングの技術は天下一品で、実は今も大学院の課題の添削を依頼しています（笑）
ちなみに、彼女は現在、日本在住で、とある英会話学校の教師をしています。

今回は、Task1 から２つのグラフがある問題を選んでみました。
２つのグラフがある時は、情報量が多くて、私は書きすぎてしまう傾向があるのですが、上手に大切な点だけ拾うことがポイントだと思います。
でも、それが難しい（涙）
課題
The chart and graph below give information about participants who have entered the Olympics since it began. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting on the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
エッセー
The bar graph shows the number of male and female participants who joined the Olympics from 1924 to 2012 as well as the line graph which demonstrates the total number of Olympic participants during the same timespan.
According to the bar graph, both genders showed an ascending order, however, there were more males than athletes over the given time period. On the one hand, males started from 3,000 and showed a gradual increase and doubled in 2012. On the other hand, there were approximately 100 female participants in 1924. The number of female participants gradually increased to 1,800 in 1984 and then sharply rose to nearly 5,000 in 2014, when the gap between males and females shortened averaging at 1200. The line graph shows the consistent increase from 3,000 people to nearly double in 1984 and then passed 10,000 in 2012.
Overall, both graphs clearly demonstrate that the number of Olympic participants rose significantly within the given years. While there were more males than females participating, the growth of the female participants was sharp and significant.

色々なIELTSの学習教材や学習サイトを見ると
Overall statement （最後の段落）は、Introductionに含めましょう！
と教えている先生が多いと思います。
でも、私はあえてOverall Statement を最後に段落を設けるようにしています。
いずれにせよ、Overall statementのない文章は点数が伸びないので、絶対に含めましょう。
IntroductionにOverall Statementを含むメリットは、
グラフの説明の方針を決めてから、Body を書くことができる！ということです。
最後にOverall Statementの段落を設けることのメリットは、
1) エッセー全体のまとまりがよく見えることと
（Task1 ではConclusionはいらないと言われていますが・・・）
2) 書いたことを元に、全体の内容をまとめることができることです。
どちらが良い・悪いは、ありません。
結局、自分はどちらの書き方が合っているか？ということです。
私はずっと、IntroductionにOverall Statementを書いていました。
でも、私はそれは自分の思考には合ってない方法でした。
ライティングの点数で悩んでいる方は、どちらが自分に合うのか、２通りの方法で、同じ問題のエッセーを書いてみて、一度考えてみるのをおすすめします！
実は私の場合は、師匠のおかげでこのことにとに気付けました。
自分に合う先生に出会うことは、とても難しいですが、色々な考え方に触れることは大切です。
